Chaos & Colour is Uriah Heep as you want to hear them in 2023. This is Uriah Heep music. They don’t try to do anything different. And that’s OK. The star of this album is Phil Lanzon. His playing has never been better or more inventive. Dave Rimmer is another member that shines on this album. A rare bass solo on ‘Freedom to be free’ is a treat. Bernie Shaw has never sounded better. Mick and Russell do what has to be done to make this a 5-star album. The production by Jay Ruston is clean and he gets the best out of the band. Another thing worth noting is that Box/Lanzon wrote 4 songs. Gilbrook/Pinto also four songs and one by Dave and De Soto; Save me tonight - the first single. I love the cover that reminds me of Return to Fantasy in form, if not design. The gatefold sleeve has a cool portrait of the band and the record sleeve has the lyrics & thank yous. It’s certainly the album of the year IMHO and I played it 1-2 times a day on vinyl and streaming. If you haven’t bought this one, you can look forward to an amazing production from Heep. They keep getting better, how do they do it?
