Thanks to Bob & Terje for actually agreeing with something that I wrote,
which proves there is a first time for everything. lol To return to the
original posters thoughts, it is extremely difficult, one could only
imagine, for anyone to remain creative and put a smile on a face for more
than forty years in a band, especially when audiences are showing up at
your gigs to hear... possibly only two-three songs (in the case of
"Kansas": "Dust in the Wind", "Carry on Wayward Son" & "Can I Tell YOU?"),
which has to be a formidable task for anyone. So, if Steve Walsh's
creative juices were running low, or he felt no-one would care for a newer
song like say "When the World Was Young", "Icarus II" or "Not Man Big",
then, yes, perhaps it is time to move on. Still, that is why I applaud The
Heep anno 2014, because Mick & co. seem to always find a way to present
something pleasing enough to their hardcore fans to keep us all wanting
more even though we would all like to hear a newer epic in the vein of a
"July Morning", etc. By the way, for me personally, "Abominog" IS one of
the greatest heavy Rock releases of all-time! It is just a bit atypical as
a "Uriah Heep" disc when compared to the likes of the incomparable "Look at
Yourself", immaculate "Demons & Wizards", stupendous "The Magician's
Birthday" or the ever captivating "Wonderworld".
