I thought vinyl players were standard in cars back in the 60s and 70s.

We have not had this discussion on the list in a long long time.  8 Track
was my original choice and I accumulated close to a thousand in the 70s and
80s.  This was a love hate relationship too.  I loved that you could put a
tape in and not have to turn it over like cassette or vinyl.  I loved the
continuous play feature and with Heep they would just run for hours!!  The
things I did not like about the 8 track, where channel changes in the middle
of a song.  The most notorious for me was Pilgrim on Sweet Freedom.  The
other problem was tape breaking and jamming.  I got good at fixing them
though.  Vinyl had the best sound, but still scratched and was not portable
to play in car.
