Yes, a great band is always the sum of its members, very much like early Heep, which so many have seen as Ken in the past, yet he was never as good on his own, but there are examples of one person that shines above, take Keith Emerson in the Nice, he was far better than his band members, but he still needed Palmer and Lake to really shine in ELP.
