Yes, much more fun than rushing to and from a venue. And if you are really lucky you might just pay for the trip. 
We didn't! but still was a lot of fun
We enjoyed Kansas City when we went years back to see the band.  
We went a day early and stayed a day later to hit a couple of local dives to hear some music Jerry's Bait Shop was a real happening place

That sounds like fun Bob I would love to see Heep at a Casino venue .
You can can get a room ( if available) not worry about having some drinks and driving anywhere, food is all there , you can try your luck and at the end the night just night just walk up to your room and crash.
