[Heeplist] Heeplist Digest, Vol 173, Issue 26

The thing about the 10 miles recordings is they we only have the songs in bootleg quality, they do have the quality recordings in the archive along with a quality live show from the Sloman era, but as we know Conquest is a quality recording and that doesn't help it be any better, but anything with Lawton singing thats recorded well is ten miles better than Conquest and Equator, so yes, it should be released if its off the master recording. Aaah, another sensible person on the list :-) If you can get to hear the
versions with John Lawton singing them, I think you'd appreciate the songs
more, but no it'll never be a classic album in its released version :-)

I'd like to agree that "all Heep is good Heep" but in good consciousness I
can't! Conquest is just well, plain not good! I have tried and tried to
give it a chance but I can't get past the lispy vocals (not that there's
anything wrong with that...)

Sorry Bob, I think I added to the confusion when I typed Equator when I
meant Conquest :-) I still disagree about 10 miles being Heep's worst in
comparison to what came out on Conquest or Equator. I'd take John L's voice
over Sloman or Goalby any day and Goalby over Sloman in Heep anyday too.

I never said 10 miles songs would end up on Equator. I just said 10M was
not a good recording and that is why Heep did not release it. If they did
we would be talking about 10miles as heep's worst rather than Equator. That
was the point. Although some may argue Conquest is the worst, but I actually
do love it, even for sentimental reasons as it is Ken's last with Heep.

I can agree with that. I forgot 10M was JL, I was thinking of the Sloman
live bootleg. With John definitely up a notch!

If we?re talking voice, Lawton had the voice . But a good front man needs
more than just a voice . Was he a great frontman for Heep is questionable.
