I have been reading the discussions around Ken and Heep againwith interest. I grew up with the band and have listened to all versions with great interest. Whether today's version is Heep or not is a difficult discussion for many Heep fans.

I believe that Uriah Heep was a band founded by David, Mick and Ken. At some level, a band without any of the three is not UH. To me, David Byron was the most important ingredient as the face and voice of the band. Certainly, Ken's songwriting was essential, and Mick made it sound so awesome. Add in players like Paul N, Gary and Lee and you have the makings of an epic rock outfit. The chemistry all changed with John Lawton. If you like John and Trevor, like I did, that's fine. They stand on their own merits, but it's just not Uriah Heep.

Now I like to chunk the music by the lead singer, so I have a playlist with all my favorite Bernie songs, usually only songs recorded by Bernie as the lead. I have seen the band live many times and think it's OK that they play the oldies, but it feels like 'Uriah Heep featuring Bernie Shaw' more than 'Uriah Heep.' Goes back to David founding the band. So, in conclusion, I like to have my cake and eat it too.

All Heep is great music! (A twist on Bob's saying)
