[Heeplist] Rock the Haus Set List?

Tapio, I agree the set list looks boring on paper, but they have added a few
tweaks here and there and it does work quite well. I've just got back from 4
gigs in Germany and they are evolving it slightly as they go. I got to one
sound check where Russell suggested a tweak to the opening of Look At
Yourself which they tried out then and incorporated that night.
Gypsy is interesting as an opener, Phil starts it with what appears to be
the middle section where the guy has been whipped etc. before reverting to
the heavy opening we all know and love :-)
Look At Yourself follows on nicely from it, especially now that Mick
augments the opening to it more.
Rainbow Demon seemed to develop that lower toned more menacing sound it
deserves between the first night and second.
The Law is my least favourite track from Outsider but it's done well, I'd
still prefer any other track instead of it though.
Wise Man to me was the stand out track from the set. The rest of the band
leave the stage after Magician's Birthday to the "surprise" of Phil and
Bernie, who then proceed to do Wise Man as just Phil on keys and Bernie
singing. It really does work beautifully and if it's on Youtube or anywhere,
then it's well worth a look and listen.

All four of the gigs were well received. Stuttgart was very busy, I'd
estimate about 800 or so there. I have to say how Davey Rimmer has grown
into his role now. I had a good opportunity to watch him during July Morning
(as I always did with Trevor) and there was one point when he lifted his
guitar and I really thought he was gonna do a Trevor slide but no, not quite
yet. Talking to him afterwards, he said how difficult he thought it was to
do that. One thing that came out of the conversations I had with both Davey
and Russell was just how much respect they truly had for the work that Lee
and Trevor had done. Bernie was very talkative after the show too. UK fans,
nothing is confirmed yet, but there is a possibility of them doing some UK
gigs as support to Bad Company that could give them good exposure in the UK.
In Ulm there was no support band, so Rich Wagner and I got caught out a bit
expecting to be able to get space when we turned up to see the support band
and had to stand at the back of the venue, by the doorway, even the upstairs
balcony was full.
Mosbach was a nice venue, but seated. Well it was until Heep appeared and
Bernie got everyone standing up right from the off! Fortunately I'd been put
on the guest list and they'd given me a seat in the upstairs balcony rather
than the seat right at the back I'd bought, so I was able to fully enjoy
being able to see the show properly without tall people bobbing round in
front of me :-) and give my weary legs a rest at the same time! I'm not sure
about numbers downstairs, but the balcony had spare seats.
At Oberhausen I got a chance to meet up with some of the Dutch Heepsters and
wee Joe from Scotland too, so it was back to the normal near the front
bopping away during the gig this time. It was the first time Mick was using
his new amps too and they sounded good. It's also cool I think that his
speaker cabinets have Mick Box on them where you might normally see Marshall
or whatever.

Talking to Russell and Davey in the bar after Ulm, they were definitely
committed to taking the Heep cause forward. I can't think of any other good
gossip that came out of the chats I had, although I believe that Heep now
have new management. Martin Darvell having sold up his interest in Liscombe
Park etc and moved to Devon to concentrate on his horses.

Cheers,

Pete

Hi Scott

This is the set list they have been playing on the German tour. I have to
say this has got to be the dullest set list from Heep I have ever seen. The
previous set they had used for one year so it's of course good that they
make changes.

Four songs from Outsider and the rest is all stuff from the early 70's
(except Wise Man). The Magician's Birthday and Wise Man are the interesting
points for me in the show, all the other old songs are those they've done on
almost every tour since 2007 when Russell joined the band.

1. Gypsy
2. Look At Yourself
3. Rainbow Demon
4. The Law
5. The Outsider
6. Sunrise
7. Stealin'
8. The Magician's Birthday
9. Wise Man
10. The Wizard
11. One Minute
12. Can't Take That Away
13. July Morning
14. Lady In Black
15. Bird Of Prey
16. Easy Livin'
