[Heeplist] The Age Old Heep List Argument

Dale, you are so right. Thanks for adding that perspective to this thread. I've been reading along as everyone posts their opinions, agreeing and disagreeing with different people but really enjoying this debate at the same time. Heep fans are the greatest and it really shows off our maturity as a fan base to be able to just accept other people's opinions about the band, even when we don't agree. Not many fan bases are like that!
It can't be an age thing either as I'm 19 and I know many other younger fans are out there too. Personally, I love all Uriah Heep eras. The Byron era being my favourite and the Pete Goalby efforts possibly at the bottom of my hierarchy but still brilliant.
We are humble fans of a humble band!

Love to all,
Grace Clarke

One thing that has been proven by these posts…………we all seem to love Uriah Heep in one form or another and that each person can relate to a certain lineup or album depending on when they were born and when they first heard Heep.
> We all seem to be happy that Heep is still around putting out quality music, and that is what this list is all about. Otherwise it would be known as some other band’s mailing list. I guess with all the different opinions being posted by everyone, it only shows how passionate we all are about the group and music in general.

>>> And not only that, a band is a personal thing. David Byron started the band with Mick Box, and with Ken Hensley they made it Uriah Heep. That was the nucleus of the band. Most fans chose to leave Heep when Byron left; I chose to stay. Personally, I don´t need to hear another version of Easy Livin´or Lady in Black. I prefer Bernie and Phil when they play their own songs, and wish they would concentrate on the new material. If they want to play Gypsy or Look at Yourself in the extras, that´s fine, but without the artist that wrote the song and the lyrics it will never provide the musical experience we crave. Perhaps Mick Box owns the name, but I couldn´t care less. I want the ´new´Heep to present their own creative vision, not what David and Ken created in the 1970´s. Music is art, not friggin´sports.

No one I know starts it with "Back in my days... when I was young..." etc., they just rate David Byron as an outstanding singer and performer no matter how long has he been out of the band or even dead. Can you say the same about Bernie? Or Goalby? Or Sloman? I think only John Lawton has a comparable level of magic. But it's about tastes really, they do differ as a matter of fact.

Most of hard rock lovers I know personally (actually all of them) definitely belong to this category - and you can't take that away, that surely means something, it ain't just nostalgia, gentlemen.
>>>>> P.S. The one who prefers Bernie Shaw to David obviously haven't noticed what made David one of the finest singers that have ever emerged during the best days of rock. As for Bernie... well, he's good at what he does, but if you see his era as a preferable one, I am afraid you've already missed the whole world that was there before and which made it possible for the current line-up to make ends meet after all these years. Please, take no offence, but certain things are really hard to understand unless you were born in 199-something and grew up listening to modern Heep.
