[Dave Crookham]

Abandon and Bananas are awful albums no matter who made them - my 2 least 
favorite Purple releases ever by far. Bastard of the Blues is definitely not 
in that category. I was just never a big fan of 80's Helix. I like "Deep 
Cuts The Knife", but the rest of their material just never stood out for me.

Dave,
I also like Bastard Of The Blues very much and agree that two first songs 
stand out, but can not  share the overall judment: if you value original 
stuff and the musicianship (that band wasn't only about the lead singer, far 
from it), the first three Helix albums are  much-much better than this, 
there are much more interesting player details (especially in the 1981 
release), at least for me. The latest release is a typical good modern LP 
with some catchy melodies and (still) very good singing by Brian Volmer... 
but it is what it is to me (ok, very good, but doesn't rank on a par with 
the classics), while if I start listening to White Lace and Black Leather I 
hardly can take my ears off it :) It's kind of like when you play Burn or 
Deep Purple In Rock - and after that put on the Abandon or Bananas :))) 
Breaking loose... tonight! :)))))))))
