I actually like Lonely Nights but dont care for Across The Miles. Heep had never had a big hit in alot of countries with their own material so I suppose it was understandable to try a cover song or two.

Yes, that Lonely Nights and Across the Miles are attempts to gain that
elusive hit single.  My opinion is, to have a true hit single (if such a
thing exists anymore) it should be original
