This is a tough question, Bob. On one hand, this version of the band has been re-discovering Heep classics for a lot of new fans and it is a good thing. Even me, I first showed my interest in the band back in 1988 after reading in some fab Soviet magazine that they were the first rock group from the West to play in Moscow for 10 sold-out dates in a row! However, I had a good guide who at once corrected my suggestion that UH is
"Mick Box and some other musicians", he played Look At Yourself and Wonderworld to me, I was shocked. After getting to hear "Live in Moscow" feelings were quite different, and I realized at once this isn't a true Heep. Still, thought I,thanks to them for playing the classics. My attitude changed significantly after 1995 and 1998 albums, they, unlike the predecessors, did the trick for me, although I still didn't like when they played The Wizard or Lady In Black... They are a good band, but if after Byron Heep lost a huge part of their magic, after parting company with Ken they've absolutely lost validity to be called Uriah Heep. I realize that Mick Box isn't Jimmy Page or Blackmore who could easily do without their famous bands just being themselves. They are famous, he isn't, and all he had apart from the talent was the name which in turn, was quite famous. Almost the same happenned to Tony Iommi and his Black Sabbath or Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash fame - they also weren't brave enough to carry on as solo artists. I think, the way things are suits most of the band' members both past and present: if I get it right, one still gets his royalties for the material reisssued and played live "by Uriah Heep", the others have a great moneymaking vehicle.
Cheers, Igor
