They do indeed, Shawn, they are a great example of a powerful team-working creative unit. Some of Phil's ideas have their roots rhythmically and harmonically in 80-s pop which is hardly real Heep style. Still, who cares... since the late 80-s it partially has been anyway :))))))
Cheers, Igor

>> I don't want this to be interpreted as if Ken said "Mick had ONLY ideas..." for, first of all, it wasn't the case and, secondly, I was the one he was talking to (an interview taken more than a decade ago). Actually, that phrase had resulted in explanation why Ken was so angry with Lee Kerslake late in the 70-s... I guess it all doesn't matter much now. What was (and is important still) - classic Heep line-up nucleous consisted, as I got it, of musicians of different types.
>>Byron was the performer, the singer, the composer (he penned some songs solely) - but also a team member when necessary until he got fed up with the whole enterprice...
>>Hensley is an extremely gifted songwriter (not to be confused with "composer"!) who is also  a multiinstrumentalist, prefers to dominate in the process and organize everything around himself. That approach has its pros and cons - I think, during the best days of Heep he managed (or was put into such position) not to overdominate and even collaborated on certain occasions. He was the key figure, he was the spokesman - but he wasn't the bandleader, the boss, whatever... Now it is different, he rules his small creative universe - and the result is, whether you like the songs or not so much, they have absolutely no chemistry about them. It is Ken-made, Ken-arranged, Ken-directed singer-songwriter show.
>>Now to Mick Box. Unlike Hensley's semi-existing band, modern Uriah Heep (thanks mostly to Mr.Box) still have that chemistry in the creative process, althought of a different sort. Even if their music sounds not extremely entertaining as a pure idea, they always manage to give it that special "Heep treatment" - which makes it audible and even joy to listen in the end. Personally I think most of their compositions were not songs or poems initially - just Phil and Mick who "had ideas" :)))))) But, as years went by, they managed to bound those bits and pieces as tightly as any good band today could only wish for.
