Hi David - Very similar feelings here. I'm old enough to have purchased the
original albums when they were released and have bought every Zep product
that's come along with the exception of some of the remastered greatest
hits packages (thank God).I seldom listen to many of them but part of that
is to blame on classic rock radio etc.
When CDs were first released (1985 around here?), one of the first I went
for was LZ IV. The sound was so hiss-laden that I returned it to the store
and clerk agreed. We opened one or two more, played them and determined
that they were all bad. I got my money back and stayed away from that CD
for years. Still don't have it on CD although it's probably my favorite LZ.
Over the years, I've been generally pleased with what's come out. I
loved "Mothership" but I seldom take it out.
But, I'm sure I'll run out Tuesday and get the new releases. LZ III is a
secret love of mine and I never had LZ II on CD.
Interestingly, I ran into a Zep fan in Ohio last week who was pissed that
"Presence" was not one of the first releases.
I guess we're all fools in the rain.
Peace, brother.
