 Todd,
With all respect, it is lies about the Beatles and the kind were outlawed in the USSR. No, they were not released oficially until mid 80-s but neither they were banned. People brought almost any possible rock  LP from their foreign trips. The only restriction came in 1983-84 when the the Young Communist  League issued a list of bands which are not recommended to be played at discos - and yes, there were a lot of rock groups. But that didn't last long.

P.S. Heep's Innocent Victim was officially released under license from Ariola in 1980. Sure it was very poor in comparison with the Western world but it had nothing to do with restrictions.
