It is up to one's taste really, David. He was fantastic overall - and there's no exaggeration from me saying that, I really do mean it - but I prefer his Elf, studio Rainbow and BS to all the rest of his.
Cheers, Igor

Perhaps this very thought ain't that original - but this humble conclusion of mine rather explains why certain people find it difficult to apply, for instance, the Uriah Heep name to modern version of the band. If you are relatively young and were raised on this Lanzon-Shaw modification of the band - than fine, no problem, you knew no other Heep really. If not - this might be tough to accept... no matter how good any of the newer musicians are! Dio was unbelievable singing his rock'n'rolls and ballad stuff - but his "Mistreated" to me was nothing more than an attempt of a very good singer to fill the shoes that were never his, they were DC's - who is outstanding in his own genre :))) We can go on forever, I suppose. Rock is generally an author's genre, it loses a lot of value if interpreted by others, there are exceptions but to me they only prove the rule.

>>> Jim Dandy IS the greatest singer in his own genre, of course. Like David Byron was - in his own special way. Objectively speaking, there can't be the best singer as such. For instance, late RJD was one of the best in the whole rock music - but he sang other singers songs quite poorly. I suppose, it just wasn't his field. Another example - Freddie Mercury who was a joke standing alongside Montserrat Caballe. But who will say he isn't great overall? Let anyone try to do Jim Mangrum - and they will surely fail.
