[Heeplist] Live fire Hensley

 Tek, hi!
You surely mean Wonderworld, not Wonderland? :) Don't you miss the great old songs - they are hopefully still on your LP's :))) As for Ken' role in the group -it hardly can be underestimated, but it is more a question not of a band without him and his input, but without almost all of the original (classic line-up) members. They all contributed enormously, and never mind the credits because sometimes they give you a slightly wrong idea. Because, it is always the band's work that you admire. It was the band, the time, it was the chemistry. Now it is ALL DIFFERENT, - doesn't matter do we discuss Hensley or current UH -  albeit at times nice. And to me, quite honestly, it doesn't matter anymore who has more off the original band. I love them all regardless of what they do. It is likely that other people see it some other way, but to me none of their post classic Heep  music works on the same emotional level, if not for some very rare exclusions (and they are mostly Ken's songs). But to me it seems absolutely natural. Still, they are very good even apart.
Cheers, Igor

>I grew up in a small town in Arizona called Sedona. Everytime Uriah Heep released a new album, I quickly got on my bike and rode out to get it. Spending a lot of my childhood with my eyes up in the skies listening to Uriah Heep. I have to agree that the original line up started to go (Byron and Thaine) the original sound did too. However, I wanted to state that it was Hensley that wrote the majority of the original scores that made Uriah Heep. Today, their sound is good but not the same in anyway. Without Hensley it will never get the original sound. How I miss the songs like Return to Fantasy, Wonderland and Echoes in the Dark....

I do think for some reason on studio albums Ken still tries to write what he thinks would be hit singles, where I think Mick and Heep have moved on more to just writing what they want to play more than anything else, which is what I think all bands should do, write what they enjoy without any real thought of what the fans want. I just think the music is more pure and just better when band's really enjoy what they're playing.
