WHAT GOES UP...
John Lawton related to Dmitry Epstein an end of tour gag pulled by Heep's crew on the last night of the
US tour with Kiss. It seems at the time Lee Kerslake would stand up at the end of his drum solo and jump over his drum kit.
The crew had located a trampoline on wheels. When Lee
jumped over his kit on that night, one of the crew rolled the trampoline to exactly where Lee was going to land.
John said he was afraid Lee would bounce into the front row,
however Lee tried to straddle the device. He was somewhat successful but he ended up splitting his pants!
HEEP HAS A NUMBER 1 HIT!
"Lady In Black" was recorded in 1970 for the Salisbury album which was
released in 1971. However, when the song was re-released
as a single in 1977, It rocketed to the number 1
on the German charts and stayed there for 13
weeks. Uriah Heep was awarded the prestigious
Golden Lion award for the song.
KEN'S GUITAR STOLEN
Ken Hensley's custom built Gibson Les Paul was stolen from him at the Reading Festival. To add insult to injury, Gerry Bron had a bitter argument backstage with the festival organisers when
Uriah Heep wasn't allowed to play an encore.
SNAKE EYES FOR THE INNOCENT VICTIM
According to both Mick Box and John Lawton, Lee
Kerslake's eyes are super-imposed over the snake eyes
on the UK album cover for Innocent Victim.
