EQUATOR RELEASED
Heep signed with CBS Portrait and returned to the studio. Tony Platt was the
new producer and the resulting album was a
more Americanized product apparently aimed at
a younger audience. Mick admitted later that Platt
was wrong for the band. Compounding all the problems, the album was not in the shops!
THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND THE WORLD...
John Sinclair came up with the name "Equator" for Heep's
next album. Little did Sinclair know at the time but it would be
Heep's last album with him and Pete Goalby.
EQUATOR MIX MYSTERY
In a recent interview with Kevin Julie, Tony Platt stated
that he believes his final mix for the Equator album was NOT used for
the CBS Portrait release! After listening to the album, Tony came to the conclusion that his final mix was lost by CBS and the tapes were hurriedly and poorly remixed.
GOALBY LEAVES HEEP!
Pete Goalby, frustrated for the lack of promotion
for Equator and his voice blown out by
extensive touring, walked away from the Heep frontman position.
"I loved and believed in Uriah Heep but it kicked the sh*t out of me in the end."
